I so understand the need for a Sanity Clause, and have been working at simplifying Christmas at our house for several years — fewer gifts, but more family interaction — simpler food, so more time to visit and play with the grandkids — a slower timetable, like sometimes writing the “Christmas” cards on the day after New Year’s Day. Gee, if people really want to hear from me, they won’t care if the card comes after Christmas. This year was perfect — candlelight service on Christmas Eve, breakfast with friends on Christmas Day, Christmas supper in the crockpot, and our little family together Christmas night. Wow. . .

Thanks ***so*** much for the reminder, Mary! I’m often saying “Later” to my children, too, and then realize that those potential moments with them will be gone forever. You can’t turn back the hands of time, and since my cherubs are in their teens (okay, one’s *almost* in her teens!) and my oldest is almost 17…, it’s a very good thing to realize before those special moments, or needful moments to just listen and offer support, are gone.
