LAUGH FOR TODAY: I got my laugh early this morning reading an article by Ted Olsen in Christianity Today online about the “death of blogs” and how 200 million who blogged last year are no longer blogging this year. Maybe, as the article suggests, the shakeout will be good, with fewer blogs of mediocre blather and more of substance. Regardless, here I am–HA!–just joining the blogosphere.
My timing is, as usual, a little off. This is how I often feel in life–a step behind everybody else. “A day late and a dollar short” as the saying goes. (It started at 12 when I was still wearing PJs with feet when the other girls had baby-doll pajamas.) Do you ever feel that way? You cut your hair shorter just when everyone starts growing theirs out. You wear your jeans too high in a low-rider world. You finally catch on, only to discover everyone else is moving on.
ENCOURAGEMENT FOR TODAY: I might feel like I’m running behind the pack, but regardless of how I feel, God knows exactly where I am and He can use me, right here, right now.
Be encouraged no matter how “out of it” you feel, that you are loved and usable–exactly where you are.
Relax. Laugh. Take a deep breath, and go bless somebody else today.
Have book…must blog…
It’s my new mantra, running through my head since last July’s marketing meeting with the fine folks at Zondervan, my publisher. I left the meeting (my “brain full” light had long since come on) and got on the plane in a daze. The flight attendant offered a beverage. I waved it away. “Have book, must blog…” I mumbled as I fell asleep. I dreamed of Paladin. “Have Gun, Will Travel” was his motto. (Imagine the trouble HE’d have getting on a plane these days.)
Paladin didn’t let anything get in the way of his mission–ever. So when I got home, I called my techno-wiz son, Alex (aka Catbox Boy) and told him, “Have book…must blog…” Thanks to Alex, my website is entering the new millennium. More tweaks, graphics and features will be coming soon, including a Community Fan Site, the Store, contests, book giveaways and more.
And I can say, at long last, “My name is Mary Pierce, and I’m a blogger.”
And that’s how I’ll introduce myself at the Overbloggers Anonymous meeting one day.
And duh… the new book from Zondervan, WHEN DID MY LIFE BECOME A GAME OF TWISTER? (click here to read a sample) is coming to a bookstore near you (or near your keyboard) on November 5, 2007. Must remember to mention book in blog…must remember… must remember…
